Kartarpur corridor: India-Pakistan officials to now meet on March 14

India, Pakistan officials meet on Kartarpur corridor will take place on March 14 in Delhi for which a Pakistani delegation will be visiting the country. The meet was earlier scheduled to happen on March 13.

Replying to a question on the developments on Kartarpur corridor, the ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, "they had proposed date, and we had accepted the date. To finalize the modalities, the visit is taking place on March 14."

India had also shared the crossing point for the corridor but Pakistan has suggested an alternate crossing point.

Mea spokesperson said, "We had suggested a crossing point, shared coordinated, from Pakistan side we received a response and they have suggested an alternate crossing point."

India shared the coordinates on Kartarpur corridor in January. New Delhi hopes to complete all legal modalities regarding the corridor within a month and has issued land acquisition notification for building a highway and an integrated check post.

India has also suggested engineers meet before the India Pakistan officials meet on March 14 and according to MEA spokesperson, "awaits the response of Pakistan".

Home Ministry last week designated Dera Baba Nanak Land Check Post in Gurdaspur district in Punjab as the authorized Immigration Check Post for entry into/exit from India for the Kartarpur corridor.

India, Pakistan in 2018 approved the building of Kartarpur Corridor so that pilgrims can easily visit the Holy Gurudwara, where the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak lived for 18 years, to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev this year. 

Recently, Pakistan High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood said Kartarpur Initiative can be instrumental in further facilitating and fortifying people-to-people bonds.
