Karnataka cabinet talks: BS Yediyurappa-Amit Shah meet likely to be deferred following Sushma Swaraj's demise

Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday is scheduled to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the expansion of the state cabinet.

Yediyurappa will discuss the names of potential ministers and his recommendations with Amit Shah and the final list will be made after his approval. According to reports, initially about 15 ministers will be inducted in the state cabinet.

However, the meeting is likely to be postponed following the demise of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Swaraj was admitted to All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) following a deterioration in her health on Tuesday night. She was declared dead at 10:50 pm. Swaraj was appointed the foreign minister in the first term of Modi government in 2014. She opted out of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections citing health reasons. 

On July 29, Yediyurappa proved the majority of his government in the state Assembly after winning the trust vote through voice vote. He took oath as the chief minister of Karnataka for the fourth time on July 26.

The Congress-JD(S) coalition government fell last week after losing the trust vote in Karnataka Assembly. Following the defeat, Kumaraswamy submitted his resignation to Governor Vajubhai Vala at Raj Bhavan, along with his cabinet ministers.
