Karnataka BJP leaders meet Amit Shah and JP Nadda, discuss government formation

A Karnataka BJP delegation on Thursday met Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Working President JP Nadda to discuss the government formation in the state after outgoing chief minister HD Kumaraswamy failed to prove the majority of JD(S)-Congress coalition in the Assembly.

The delegation comprising Jagadish Shettar, Basavaraj Bommai, Arvind Limbavali, and JC Madhuswamy will meet Amit Shah and JP Nadda again at 3pm in the afternoon.

"We met Amit Shah & JP Nadda regarding the political scenario in Karnataka, formation of BJP govt there & steps to be taken. They want to discuss again this afternoon at 3 PM, then they will take a final decision in the Parliamentary Board meeting," said Shettar after the meeting.

Meanwhile, BJP lawmaker JC Madhuswamy refuted the possibility of rebel lawmakers joining the Congress and the JD(S) parties again.

"Those in power were not gracious enough to consider their requests. Their bond is spoilt. There is no question of them going back to their original parties. We are confident that we will form the government," he said.

"Senior BJP leaders from the state will be meeting Amit Shah Ji. Let`s see what happens," added BY Vijayendra, Karnataka State General Secretary, BJP Yuva Morcha.

After the fall of the Kumaraswamy government, the state BJP is willing to stake claim to form the next government. The central leadership, however, has not yet taken any decision on the formation of the government. 

The 14-month-old Congress JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka fell on Tuesday after it was defeated on the floor of the Karnataka Assembly with about 20 MLAs of the ruling coalition defying their party whips and absenting from voting on the confidence motion.

The coalition got 99 votes as against 105 of the opposition.
