The court also said that it would examine whether the investigation into the lynching should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation or not.
Fifteen-year-old Junaid Khan had in June last year been travelling with an elder brother and friends back to his Haryana village after shopping in Delhi for Eid when a few fellow passengers asked them to vacate their seats.
A fight ensued when they refused. And Junaid ended up being stabbed to death.
The killing was possibly a hate crime since Junaid and the others were called "beef eaters" and their beards tugged before they were attacked.
