According to police sources those who were killed were believed to be from West Bengal and were working as daily wagers
"In Kulgam terrorists have killed five civilians. Police is on the spot. Information is preliminary in nature" Kashmir Zone Police was quoted as saying.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and massive search operation is underway with additional security forces also being called in.
The lone injured person was shifted to the district hospital in Anantnag.
All the labourers were reportedly from Murshidabad, West Bengal.
Troops of 18 Battalion Army and J&K Police also reached the spot, reported ANI.
The dead were believed to be daily wage workers.
