Japanese Prime Minister Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering postponing his trip to India scheduled to begin on Sunday, news agency Reuters reported quoting Japan`s Jiji Press.
Guwahati, the planned venue for a summit between Abe and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been engulfed in violent protests over a controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) passed in the parliament recently.
President Ram Nath Kovind gave his nod to the bill on Thursday, letting it become an Act after the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) passed the Bill.
The Bill gives Indian citizenship to the members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014, to India due to religious persecution.
Earlier Bangladesh foreign minister and home minister cancelled India visit.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen cancelled his scheduled visit to India due to "increasing demand at home".
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan has also cancelled a visit.
Khan was to visit Shillong to attend an event by the freedom fighters welfare trust for the support by people in the region for Bangladesh liberation in the war of 1971.
