Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Sunday hit out at Prime Minister Modi in connection to the Rs 11,400 crore PNB Scam by fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi.

Chidambaram said, "It's all happening in one sector-Jewelry. Key players seem to have come from one state-Gujarat. It's not happening across sectors and states. Obviously, people have been helped at some level. Who or how helped, I have no evidence".

PNB has accused Nirav Modi of defrauding the bank of over Rs 11,000 crores since 2011 with the help of bank officials who are under arrest now.

Taking a jibe at the "pakora" comment made by PM Modi Chidambaram said the government was living in denial.

He said "We should begin to ask hard questions. Unless more and more people ask questions to the present govt it will continue to live in denial. They know there is a dearth of jobs. They deem selling 'pakoras' as jobs. That is like adding salt to wounds".
