Islamic organisation Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind has issued a legal notice to Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi for his remarks on madrasas.

Wasim Rizvi on Tuesday said that madrasas should be affiliated to the CBSE and the ICSE citing that the educational institution has produced terrorists.

He had also written to Prime Minister Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath suggesting that madrasas should be affiliated to CBSE, ICSE. He also said that religious education should be made optional for non-muslims students.

The notice accuses Rizvi of "insinuating" that madrasa education system has not helped in improving the condition of young Muslims but it has instigated radicalism in them.

The notice has asked for a written and unconditional apology form Rizvi with an additional fine of Rs 20 crore towards damage.
