The iPhone 8 and the 8 Plus went on sale in India at 6 pm on Friday. The buzz in the market and on social media has been described as "moderate".

But never mind all of that... The only pertinent question now is, should one buy them?

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus went on sale in India at 6 pm on Friday. Excited?

No, not at all. There has been no innovation on the phones, if you compare them to the 7S and the 7S Plus.

In a way, Apple never came across as innovating ever since Tim Cook took over the company.

The phones look and feel good -- the glass back of the 8 and the 8 Plus for example but when you start using them, you realise that they're not all that impressive.

Considering the perks of your job, you've had the opportunity to check out the phones. What did you think?

The beauty of the phones is impressive but again, when you start using them you realise that, compared to the 7S and the 7S Plus, they don't offer much more than incremental upgrades.

So the all-important question. Should one buy them?

If you're using an iPhone older than the 7, then yes. But not otherwise.

If you're really looking for the whole iPhone experience, I would suggest you wait for the iPhone X. (Did you know Apple has got rid of the home button on that phone?) The X is going to be here on November 3.

The 8 and 8 Plus are kind of expensive too...

Yes. Rs 64,000 for the base version of the 8, and Rs 73,000 for the 8 Plus.

What phone would you recommend to someone who might want the same sort of experience but does not want to buy the 8 or the 8 Plus?

The OnePlus 5 at Rs 33,000 is a very good buy. And you should also wait for the Google Pixel 2, which is going to be unveiled on October 4. (Google has not yet announced how much it is going to cost.)
