INX media case: Delhi High Court extends protection from arrest to Chidambaram

Delhi High Court, on July 25, granted interim protection from arrest to Union minister P Chidambaram till August 1.

Delhi High Court on Wednesday extended protection from arrest to former Finance Minister P Chidambaram. The protection has now been extended to September 28.

Chidambaram filed an anticipatory bail plea seeking protection from arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Delhi High Court, on July 25, granted interim protection from arrest to Union minister P Chidambaram till August 1.

The Enforcement Directorate also that Karti Chidambaram was instrumental in getting illegal FIPB approvals with the concurrence and knowledge of his father P Chidambaram. 

The Aircel-Maxis deal case, which emerged out of 2G spectrum cases, pertains to an FIPB clearance, granted to firm M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd for investment in Aircel.

The ED had earlier said that the FIPB approval granted in 2006 by Chidambaram was beyond his mandate as he was only authorised to accord approval on project proposals up to Rs 600 crore.
