The ministry of external affairs said it is investigating how the passport of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's aide Farooq Takla was renewed.

The external affairs ministry also confirmed that Farooq Takla was deported by the Dubai government.

"There's a way to issue and renew passport. We are finding out how this took place in his case. It is very clear that he is a fugitive and is wanted by the government of India. We were in touch with the Dubai government and they
have deported him," ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.

Farooq Takla, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts was arrested in Delhi by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday.  He arrived in New Delhi from Dubai when he was arrested by the CBI at an
immigration counter at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Farooq Takla was reportedly deported from the UAE with the help of central intelligence agencies and later put on a flight to Delhi. 

Farooq Takla is under police custody until March 19, 2018, by TADA Mumbai's court.
