Interpol today issued a Red Corner Notice against Nirav Modi for "money laundering". London-based international police said the Indian diamond merchant is "wanted by judicial authorities in India".

Nirav Modi has been on the run since February after Indian authorities unearthed over Rs 13,000 crore bank scam in the Punjab and National Bank(PNB).

The Indian authorities are also looking for his uncle Mehul Chowksi who is also said to have defrauded banks.

The Indian courts had earlier issued multiple notices for Nirav Modi to appear before it, however, Nirav has been absconding for months.

The Indian government has already revoked Nirav Modi's passport and urged countries not give him refuge.

Reports claimed that the fugitive diamond merchant had travelled on Indian passport this month but it could not be independently confirmed. The Indian foreign ministry had earlier issued a show-cause notice to Nirav Modi over the passport issue.

The MEA said that the revocation notice was sent to all Passport Issuing Authorities in India and abroad as well as to all their Missions and Posts.
