Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj called on Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena in Colombo on Friday (September 01) and discussed bilateral issues of mutual collaboration.

Swaraj is on a two-day visit to Sri Lanka to attend the second edition of the Indian Ocean Conference (IOC).

Earlier in the day, Swaraj also met her Sri Lankan counterpart Tilak Marapana and held discussions on various aspects of bilateral cooperation.

The details of the matters discussed in the two meetings were not known immediately.

Swaraj arrived in Colombo on Thursday (August 31) and inaugurated the IOC along with leaders from other member countries. She called for cooperation among the Indian Ocean nations to ensure its waters remain safe and secure.

The theme of this year's conference is 'Peace, Progress and Prosperity' and over 35 countries are participating.

The first edition of the IOC was held in Singapore in September 2016.

Reportedly, Sri Lanka decided to release 76 Indian fishermen arrested for allegedly poaching in its waters as a goodwill gesture to mark Swaraj's visit.
