India-US commerce dialogue to be held in Delhi on February 14

US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross will visit the national capital next week to take part in the dialogue and the CEO Forum. He, along with Commerce minister Suresh Prabhu, will co-chair the forum.
Speaking on US-India CEO Forum, US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said, "The US-India CEO Forum is critical to the fruitful commercial relationship and strong economic ties between our two great nations”.
He said the incoming US CEOs will "bring fresh perspectives to the forum" and "help us consider new opportunities to further deepen our cooperation”.
The CEO forum was established in 2005. US CEOs serve a two-year term and are selected from respondents to a US Federal Register Notice calling for CEO-level applicants to the US Section of the forum.
Around 19 people from the US private sector will take part in the US-India CEO Forum. These include Ajay Banga, CEO of MasterCard; Sanjay Bhatnagar, CEO, WaterHealth International; John Chambers, Chairman Emeritus, Cisco Systems and Deepak Chopra, CEO of OSI Systems.
The dialogue is taking place when the US President has been raising the issue of high tariff by India and even called India "tariff king".
Last month Trump boasted of how his call to India helped bring tariff down in "two minutes". He said, "Look at motorcycles as an example. (In) India, it was 100 per cent. I got them down to 50 per cent, just by talking for about two minutes. It's still 50 per cent vs 2.4 per cent (on imported motorcycles to the US). Again, other than that, it's a very fair deal."
