India stands 9th on Covid-19 worst-hit nations' list, surpassing China

India's count of recoveries is the tenth largest now after the US, Brazil, Germany, Russia, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Iran and China. 

Data by America’s Johns Hopkins University showed that India has overtaken China in terms of deaths related to Coronavirus and is now placed ninth in the world in the list of the most-affected nations.

Highest spike of 7,466 new COVID-19 cases and 175 deaths in the last 24 hours have been reported in the country. 

Total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 1,65,799 including 89,987 active cases, 71,105 cured/discharged/migrated. 

The total death toll has now reached 4,706 deaths, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its latest update on Friday. 

Of the total 4,167 fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 1,982 deaths followed by Gujarat with 960 deaths, Madhya Pradesh with 321, Delhi with 316, West Bengal with 295, Rajasthan with 180, Uttar Pradesh with 197, Tamil Nadu with 145, Telangana with 67 deaths and Andhra Pradesh 59.
