Former US President Barack Obama on Friday said that India should cherish and nurture its large Muslim population that thinks of itself as Indian.

Addressing the HT Leadership Summit in Delhi, Obama said a counter-narrative was taking shape in Europe, US and sometimes in India where tribal impulses are asserting themselves.

To a question whether Pakistani government was aware of Osama bin Laden's presence in Pakistan, Obama said ''We had no evidence that Pakistani government was aware of Osama bin Laden's presence in Pakistan.''

The former U.S. president, on his first visit to India after demitting office in January, will interact with nearly 300 young leaders drawn from various parts of the country.
