India overtakes UK's tally becomes 4th worst-hit nation by coronavirus

India on Thursday reported 9,996 new coronavirus cases which is the single highest one day rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.

India on Thursday became the fourth worst-hit country by coronavirus, overtaking the UK.

The UK, which was in the fourth spot on the list, has 2,91,588 cases as of now. In terms of corona tally, India is bellow Russia, Brazil and the US. As per updates, Russia has 4.93 lakh cases and Brazil 7.72 lakh tally. The US has the maximum number — more than 20 lakh. 

India on Thursday reported 9,996 new coronavirus cases which is the single highest one day rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.

The coronavirus numbers have been increasing exponentially since the May 24, when India entered the list of top 10. It has just 18 days to reach the fourth slot.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today said that India should convert the Covid-19 crisis into a turning point towards becoming a self-reliant nation. PM Modi also emphasized the need for import-substitution while delivering the inaugural address of the 95th annual plenary session of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) via video conferencing.

The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 7,500,138 and 419,961 people have died from the disease so far.
