India in talks with China for early announcement of Chinese import quotas

Last month, on January 21 and 22, both the countries renewed and signed the protocol on the export of Indian tobacco, making way for the exports of Indian tobacco to China.
The growth of Indian exports to China has been driven by marine products, organic chemicals, plastics, petroleum products, grapes and rice. Indian exports to China between April-December 2018 stood at $12.7 billion.
China and India have been keen on engaging bilaterally especially on the trade front. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met four times last year. This year, the Chinese President will be visiting India for the second informal summit between the two countries. The first informal summit took place in Wuhan in April 2018.
