Imran Khan's political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has invited ex-Indian cricketers to Imran Khan's oath-taking ceremony in August, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media, Chaudhry said the party has invited former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Navjot Singh Sidhu to the ceremony.

The party’s spokesperson also claimed to have invited Indian actors including Aamir Khan.

Chaudhry said the party had approached the Foreign Office regarding inviting foreign dignitaries.

Imran Khan will take oath as prime minister of Pakistan on August 11, even as his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party is striving to get the required numbers to form a government.

The PTI, led by 65-year-old Khan, has emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly after the 25 July elections, but it is still short of numbers to form the government on its own.

Khan's party has announced that it is trying to reach out to smaller parties and independents to form the next government.

After the poll results, Imran Khan said in his victory speech that better relations between Pakistan and India would be "good for all of us". "If India takes one step forward, we will take two," he said.

Former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif had travelled to Delhi to attend PM Modi's oath-taking ceremony and PM Modi had made a stopover in Lahore in December 2015 to greet his counterpart on his birthday.
