The Supreme Court pulled up the central and state governments Thursday for delaying implementation of the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013.

Notices were issued to both the states and the Centre on a plea that the act was not being implemented in its true spirit.

The petitioners argued that state governments were not giving their full support to district officers and that victims of workplace harassment could not file complaints since the state governments had failed to appoint complaints committees.

Chief Justice Deepak Misra not only sought responses from all the states but also asked how a mechanism can be developed to monitor the implementation of the law in its entirety.
