Imperative to recover market share quickly: Jaishankar at emigrant conference

The Iran embassy said that it has been facilitating the return of Indian seafarers with a special flight to New Delhi

India's external affairs minister(EAM) S Jaishankar speaking at the annual conference of protectors of emigrants appealed to the emigrants to rise to the challenge of reviving India's post-COVID-19 economy and engaging the post-COVID-19 world.

"It is imperative that we recover our market share as quickly as possible. The coming months will see dedicated efforts in that direction," India's EAM said, adding, "The contribution that protector of emigrants (POEs) can make to facilitate this national objective is significant."

"We're focusing that negative economic consequences of the pandemic on our talent abroad are mitigated that is influenced not only by the quality of our bilateral relationships but the helpful approach that we've displayed with regard to health and economic requirements of our partners," Jaishankar stressed.

Meanwhile,  High Commission of India in Abuja, Nigeria said he was happy to assist in the return of 126 Indian nationals from Benin and 21 from Chad on a special Cotonou-N'Djamena-Istanbul-Delhi charter flight today. 

Passengers have also begun arriving at Colombo airport for the special Air India flight for repatriation of stranded Indian nationals from Sri Lanka under the third phase of "Vande Bharat" mission.

The Iran embassy said that it has been facilitating the return of Indian seafarers with a special flight to New Delhi which includes 114 seafarers bringing the number of seafarers repatriated to India to 150. 

"We remain committed to return of the remaining Indians in Iran," the Iran embassy said.
