Hunar Haat to make a comeback this September amid Vocal for Local clamour

Hunar Haat, the Centre's minority outreach programme, is soon going to make a comeback -- amid the growing clamour for being "vocal" about "local".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Hunar Haat in February this year at the India Gate and relished 'litti-chokha', the signature dish from Bihar.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday said the Indian artisans and craftsmen have prepared their indigenous and exquisite products on a large scale during the coronavirus lockdown and would bring them for display and sale in the next Hunar Haat.

The government push for a self-reliant India in PM Modi's last address to the nation.

It's also being said that in the coming days, Hunar Haat will be organised across India, including identified venues like Chandigarh, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Gurugram, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Dehradun, Patna, Nagpur, Raipur, and Jammu.

Keeping social distancing norms into consideration, people will be able to buy handicraft products not just at the mela but also through digital means. The ministry has started a process to register these artisans and their indigenous products on "GeM" (Government e-Marketplace).

In addition, social distancing, hygiene, sanitisation and use of masks will be ensured at Hunar Haat. There will be a special "Jaan Bhi, Jahaan Bhi" pavilion to spread health awareness among the people with the theme of "say no to panic, yes to precautions".
