A governor of a southern state has been accused of "sexual misconduct", news reports said Monday.

The reports said the governor had asked women Raj Bhawan employees for sexual favours.

A report of the alleged sexual misconduct has reached the home ministry in Delhi, which has asked police to investigate the matter.

The identity of the governor has not yet been made public. Nor is it confirmed whether the alleged misconduct relates to the governor's current tenure or his previous one.

The reports added that if the governor were to be found guilty, he will be asked to resign immediately.

The reports added that a number of Raj Bhawan employees have accused the governor of sexual misconduct.

This is not the first complaint of this nature against the governor of an Indian state.

In 2017, the governor of Meghalaya, V Shanmuganathan, was forced to resign over similar complaints. Over a 100 Raj Bhawan employees had asked then president Pranab Mukherjee for Shanmuganathan to be recalled.
