West Bengal: Government doctor suspended for Facebook post on dengue outbreak

The West Bengal health and family welfare department has suspended a government doctor for a Facebook post which accused the authorities of concealing the facts relating to dengue outbreak in the state. 

Doctor Arunachal Dutta Choudhury's post on Facebook led to "misrepresentation in the public and (are) derogatory to the hospital administration, the suspension order issued by the state health department said.

In the post, Chowdhury claimed that 500 people were admitted to the hospital on October 6. He wrote about the struggle in diagnosing the patients and added that many of the patients were lying on the floor. 

The doctor was posted at Barasat District Hospital in North 24 Parganas district. 

The opposition party has blamed Mamta Banerjee government for trying to suppress the number of deaths due to dengue in the state.
