Today's Google Doodle celebrates the 115th birth anniversary of India's social reformer and freedom fighter Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay.

Chattopadhyay is remembered for her contribution to India's freedom movement. She is also known as the pioneer in the revival and promotion of Indian handicrafts, handlooms and theatre in independent India.

Born in Mangalore, Karnataka, Chattopadhyay went to the Bedford College in London. She worked relentlessly for the upliftment of the socio-economic standard of the Indian women by pioneering the cooperative movement.

Chattopadhyay's vision led to the formation of some of the most prestigious institutes in the field of art and craft including the National School of Drama and the Sangeet Natak Akademi, among others. 

She is the recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, the highest honour conferred by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India`s National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama.
