Golfer Jyoti Randhawa arrested on poaching charges in UP, rifle recovered from him

Indian golfer Jyoti Randhawa was arrested on poaching charges in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich on Wednesday. He reportedly killed a jungle fowl on Tuesday.

According to news agency ANI, a .22-rifle has been recovered from the golfer, more details awaited.

Randhawa was arrested by the authorities near the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.

Apart from the rifle, a vehicle and other equipments have also been seized. An interrogation is underway, added reports.

Randhawa was ranked in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking several times between 2004 and 2009. He was married to Bollywood actress Chitrangada Singh; they got divorced in April 2014.

The Wildlife Protection Act of India prohibits hunting wild animals.
