Former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan among probables for Nobel Prize for economics

Raghuram Rajan, former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor features in this year's list of possible winners of Nobel Prize in economics brought out by Clarivate Analytics. 

Clarivate Analytics publishes a list of possible Nobel Prize winners based on research citations, ahead of the formal announcement by the Nobel committee.

According to Nobel Prize organisation, the economics prize will be announced in Stockholm on Monday. 

Raghuram Rajan is among the list of six possible candidates for the economics Nobel who are all Citation Laureates-- named after their high citation tallies recorded in the Web of Science, a scientific citation indexing service.

Some of his excellent works include his book with his "commentary and speeches" to convey what it was like to be at the helm of the central bank in "those turbulent but exciting times", book "I Do What I Do" on demonetisation, detailed analysis on 2008 market crash, and "Fault Lines" on hidden financial fractures threaten the world economy. 

Mr Rajan is currently the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the Booth School of Business, University of Chicago.

He served as the RBI governor of India after serving a three-year term ending on September 4, 2016.

He is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. The former RBI Governor served as visiting professor at the Stockholm School of Economics and at Kellogg School of Management. He was also a visiting professor at MIT Sloan School of Management.
