4th fodder scam: Lalu Yadav sentenced to 14 years in jail

The special CBI court on Saturday sentenced the RJD chief for 14 years in Dumka treasury case. 

The case involves the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from December 1995 to January 1996 from the Dumka treasury.

Lalu was convicted in the case on March 19 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Ranchi.

The special CBI judge Shiv Pal Singh delivered the judgement in the case under Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. 

He had pronounced him separate sentences of seven years each under the two sections. The two terms will be served consequently making the jail term to 14 years.

The CBI judge also imposed a fine of Rs 60 lakh on Lalu. He also directed the Enforcement Directorate to confiscate the assets acquired illegally from Dumka treasury. 

The former Bihar chief minister is already serving sentences for three prior fodder scam-related convictions where he has been awarded jail terms of three and a half to five years. The sentence in these cases is running concurrently.

In this case, however, the sentence will run consequently and not concurrently. 

This is the maximum sentence awarded to any politician in the fodder scam.
