A massive fire broke out at the Kamala Mills complex in Lower Parel, Mumbai early Friday morning killing 15 people and injuring 12.

The fire was reported at 12.30 am Friday.

The fire is thought to have been caused by a short circuit in the 1 Above restaurant on the top floor of a four-storey building in the complex.

Kamala Mills is an old mill complex which now houses commercial establishments.

Eyewitnesses said the fire spread quickly, leading to a stampede since no one knew where the fire escape doors were.

An FIR has been lodged against the 1 Above restaurant.

The FIR says 14 people died, of which 11 were men and three women.

It added that the transmission of a number of television channels which have their offices at Kamala Mills was affected.

The people injured in the fire had been rushed to KEM hospital.

"All the 12 injured are out of danger now," ANI reported the Dean of KEM Hospital, Avinash Supe, as saying.
