Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has reportedly lost the race to star in a biopic planned on Shiv Sena patriarch Balasaheb Thackeray.

As reported by Deccan Chronicle, Nawazuddin will not be playing the leader after the political party Shiv Sena expressed reservations about the actor's controversial image.

This comes at a time when Nawazuddin is mired with controversies around his recently released memoir titled "An Ordinary Life", in which he talked about his extra-marital affair with Niharika Singh, a one-night stand with a waitress in New York and cheating on his then-serious girlfriend Suzanne, among other things.

The actor known for giving applaud-worthy performances in all his films has now withdrawn the book but it is said that the damage is already done.

According to the report, a source close to the matter said, "Nawaz was considered very seriously for the role - he has the gravitas to pull off Balasaheb's personality. But lately, he has been in the news for the wrong reasons."

The source added, "Such lurid happenings are good for the gossip tabloids, but not for an actor eligible to play a national leader of significant status."

It was reported earlier by DNA, the actor is gearing up to play the politician in a film that has been written by Rajyasabha MP and Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut, who will also produce the film.

The yet-to-be-named biopic will be directed by Abhijeet Panse.
