Ram Gopal Varma has been booked by the Hyderabad police for obscenity on a complaint filed by a social activist, Devi. The filmmaker's film God, Sex and Truth is scheduled to release online today.

A case under Section 67 of the IT act 2000 has been booked against him for transmitting obscene material in electronic form. The filmmaker was also booked under sections 506 and 509 of Indian Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a woman.

He had allegedly made personal comments against activist Devi and others who had opposed his movie that features adult film actress Mia Malkova. Police said that they would conduct investigations and seek legal opinion before taking further action.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, women's groups staged a protest in Hyderabad and Vizag, demanding a ban on the release of the movie and his immediate arrest. They claimed that the movie portrays women as a sex object and promotes pornography.
