EC to hold biennial elections on March 23 to fill in 58 vacant Rajya Sabha seats

The Election Commission will hold biennial elections in 58 Rajya Sabha seats from 16 states which are falling vacant on April 2.

The elections will be conducted to fill the seats of the members who are retiring in April- May 2018. 

The members retiring from their seats include union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, Dharmendra Pradhan, J P Nadda, Thaawarchand Gehlot and Ramdas Athawale.

A by-election for Rajya Sabha seat in Kerala will also take place, the seat of which fell vacant after the resignation of MP Veerendra Kumar in December. Kumar's tenure was to end in April 2022.

The voting for the elections is scheduled for March 23. 

The last date for filing of nominations is March 12.
