Two security personnel were also killed in the attack, and two injured.

While a number of security personnel have fallen to Naxal attacks over the years, the insurgents are generally not known to attack journalists.

Chhattisgarh however will be going to the polls in November of this year. The Doordarshan crew were in the state to report on the upcoming elections. It is likely that they were accompanying the police patrol party.

The government meanwhile said they would "look after" Sahu's family, and that they salute "those mediapersons who go for coverage in such dangerous situations".
