Abhinandan had been beaten by locals after his MiG 21 Bison was shot down on Wednesday in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He was later rescued by Pakistani Army personnel.

Abhinandan had taken down a Pakistani F-16 before being shot down.

Abhinandan is currently undergoing a series of medical tests, a "cooling down" process at the Air Force Central Medical Establishment in Delhi. The "cooling down" will continue till Sunday. Once the health check-up is over, officials said, Abhinandan will be debriefed.
