Delhi’s air quality remained in the very poor category Friday despite a slew of measures that were implemented in the national capital ahead of Diwali when a spike in pollution was expected to hit the city.
The Overall Air Quality Index of the national capital was recorded at 368 which falls in the very poor category, according to data by the Central Pollution Control Board.
According to a study, conducted by The Energy and Resources Institute (Teri) on environment and pollution issues, 36 per cent of the Delhi's pollution has its source within the city itself, 34 per cent in National Capital Region while 30 per cent comes from across international borders.
Teri's study shows that vehicle pollution is the cause of 28% of PM2.5 emissions, dust pollution contributes 18%, Industries contribute 30%, Delhi's residential areas contribute 10% and stubble burning by farmers in neighbouring states contribute only 4% to pollution levels during the winter season.
