The Delhi's Patiala House Court has convicted gangster Abu Salem in the 2002 extortion case against him.

The gangster has been charged for demanding an amount of Rs 5 crore as protection money from Delhi businessman Ashok Gupta in 2002.

On January 15, he had claimed that there was not much evidence available against him in the case.

He also said that he was being tried in the case in violation of the order by which he was brought from Portugal to India in 2005.

Salem has already been convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and was sentenced to life imprisonment in September 2017.

Infamous for terrorising the Bollywood film industry, the gangster worked in the D-Company as a driver transporting weapons and contraband.
