Born on May 14, 1923, in a town in Faridpur now in Bangladesh, Sen was often considered to be one of the greatest ambassadors of Bengali parallel cinema globally.
He earned several National and International awards for his work.
Sen studied physics in his college. As a student, he also participated in the cultural wing of the Communist Party of India.
