COVID-19: Mumbai records 40 deaths in last 24 hours; cases rise to over 40,000

Mumbai on Monday reported 1,413 new coronavirus cases and 40 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country's financial capital has now shot up to 40,877.

Madhya Pradesh on Monday recorded 194 more COVID-19 cases taking the total number of cases in the state to 8,283. The death toll due to the virus now stands at 358.

In Jharkhand, 26 new coronavirus cases were reported taking the total number of cases in the state to 661. 

Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh 296 coronavirus cases were reported including five deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the state now stands at 8,361 with the death toll climbing to 222.

The Himachal Pradesh health department said the total number of coronavirus cases in the state now stands at 340 with 213 active cases with five people having lost their lives to the virus.

In Assam, 73 new cases of COVID-19 cases were reported with the total number of cases in the state rising to 1,463 including 1,179 active cases and four deaths.

The Rajasthan Health Department said that 269 new coronavirus cases were reported taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 9,100.
