COVID-19: More than 1,200 new cases reported in Maharashtra; Mumbai crosses 10,000 infected mark

A total of 1,233 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Maharashtra, 771 in Tamil Nadu and 380 in Gujarat. 

Maharashtra saw a steep rise in the number of positive coronavirus cases as 1,233 new cases have been reported by the state health department. The death toll increased by 34, taking the total tally to 651.

Maharashtra is one of the worst-hit states in India with a total of 16,758 cases. Out of these Mumbai has recorded more than 600 cases within 24 hours. 

A total of 769 more cases and 25 deaths have been reported in Mumbai. Dharavi, one of the worst-hit areas in Mumbai, has reported 68 new coronavirus cases and 1 more death. Total number of cases have now increased to 733, which included 21 deaths, BMC reported. Mumbai now has 10,527 positive cases, including 412 deaths and 2,287 recovered cases.

The BMC is now taking steps to convert schools and other possible areas into isolation wards as it is being feared that the mark might cross the 75,000 mark as the financial capital has already crossed 10,000 mark, and shows no sign of decrease.

Delhi, on the other hand, has removed one more area from the list of containment zones. There are a total of 87 containment zones in Delhi now. The total number of positive cases in Delhi has crossed the 5,000 mark.

Tamil Nadu reported 771 new cases and two deaths, taking the death to 35 and total cases to 4,829. Gujarat reported 380 new cases, taking the toll to 6,625 nad death toll to 396. Uttar Pradesh's total number of cases increased to 2,998 as the state reported 118 new cases.

Nagpur has reported 44 news cases and two new cases have been reported in Ranchi.
