COVID-19: India's fatality rate at 2.82%, ICMR conducting 1.2 lakh tests daily

India's health ministry said that 73 per cent of coronavirus deaths in India were from people with co-morbidities.

"10 per cent of India's population accounts for 50 per cent of India's coronavirus-linked deaths," health ministry official Lav Agrawal said.

The government said that the fatality rate in India due to coronavirus is 2.82 per cent which is one of the lowest in the world.

According to the health ministry, 95,527 coronavirus patients have recovered with the recovery rate being 48.07 per cent.

"We've been using indigenous platforms too for ramping up coronavirus testing capacity. Truenat screening and confirmatory tests have now been validated," the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) said.

The ICMR added that RNA extraction kits are now available in good numbers with RT-PCR kits by 11-12 indigenous vendors now in use.

India's research institute said 1,20,000 tests are being conducted everyday with 681 laboratories approved for conducting coronavirus tests with 476 in the government sector and 205 in the private sector.
