COVID-19: India reports over 10,000 cases in one day; death toll rises to 8,498

India's health ministry on Friday reported 10,956 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 2,97,535.

The health ministry informed that there were 396 fatalities due to the virus in the last 24 hours with 1,41,842 active cases. India's health officials said 1,47,195 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals across the country.

The total death toll due to COVID-19 in India has climbed to 8,498.

India's national capital Delhi recorded 1,877 new coronavirus cases on Thursday which is the highest single-day spike in the city. The number of coronavirus cases has surged to over 34,000 in the capital with the death toll due to the disease surging to 1,085.

June 11 was the first time when India's capital recorded over 1,800 coronavirus cases. The previous one-day highest spike in the city was recorded on June 3 when 1,513 infections were reported.

There were also 65 deaths in the last 24 hours which is one of the largest fatalities recorded in a day in the national capital.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Police said there were 2,028 coronavirus cases in Mumbai Police with and 82 cases in the state reserve police.
