COVID-19: India reports highest single day spike for second consecutive day

As the country began Unlock 1.0, India on Tuesday reported 9,987 new coronavirus cases which is the highest one-day spike in COVID-19 cases in the country.

On Monday, the country had reported 9,983 new coronavirus cases with 206 deaths.

There were 331 deaths in the last 24 hours in the country, according to the health ministry with the total number of cases rising to 2,665,98 in the country including 1,29,917 active cases.

The health ministry informed that 1,29,215 patients have been cured of the virus.

In India's national capital reported 1,007 cases on Monday with sixty-two coronavirus fatalities from May 30 to June 6 with 27 of these deaths occurring on June 5. The highest spike in Delhi was on June 3 with 1,513 cases.

Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain had said that the current doubling rate of the coronavirus infection in the capital is 14 days, so cases are likely to increase to 56,000 in the next two weeks.

The total number of coronavirus patients under home isolation stands at 13,405, the Delhi health ministry said with 248 patients on ventilator support.

Amid the rising number of cases, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has called a meeting with all political parties today on the COVID-19 situation.

Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the total number of cases rose to 1,330 with 804 active cases. According to the state health ministry 519 people have recovered.

Maharashtra Police said on Tuesday that there were no new coronavirus cases in the forces in the past 24 hours with the total COVID-19 cases at 2,562. The death toll in the state police department stands at 34.
