COVID-19: India again records highest spike in cases as death toll rises to 8,102

India on Thursday reported 9,996 new coronavirus cases which is the single highest one day rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.

On Wednesday, the health ministry had reported 9,985 new coronavirus cases and 279 deaths in the country while on Tuesday there were 9,987 new COVID-19 cases.

The total number of coronavirus cases has surged to 2,86,579 with the death toll rising to 8,102. The health ministry informed that there were 1,37,448 active cases with 1,41,029 patients having been cured of the virus.

There were 357 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministry.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that 52,13,140 people have been tested so far with 1,51,808 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra's Pune reported 435 new coronavirus cases with seven deaths in the last 24 hours with the total number of cases rising to 10,394. The death toll has climbed to 449 in the city.

In Telangana, 191 more coronavirus cases were reported with eight deaths with the total number of cases in the state rising to 4.111. The state health department said there were 156 deaths due to the virus with 2,138 active cases.
