COVID-19 in Maharashtra: 38 new cases in Dharavi; Thane on complete lockdown

Maharashtra government said today that there are 35,178 active cases in the state with 80 per cent cases being asymptomatic.

"Doubling rate of coronavirus in Maharashtra is right now 14 days, earlier it was 5 days," the state government said.

Meanwhile, the Thane Municipal Corporation has ordered complete lockdown from Tuesday midnight due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the city. Only essential supplies would be allowed, according to authorities.

Thane city has recorded 2,172 coronavirus cases, including 288 in Mumbra area. Amid the crisis, Maharashtra police said that 1,889 police personnel, including 207 officers have tested positive for coronavirus with 20 police officers dieing due to the virus in the state.

Authorities said 838 officers have been discharged after being cured of the virus.

In Mumbai's slum area Dharavi 38 new coronavirus cases were reported in the last 24 hours with the total number of cases climbing to 1,621. The death toll due to the virus in the area stands at 60.
