Coronavirus in India: Infections rise to 1,429; death toll at 775

India confirmed on Saturday 1,429 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, raising the total figures to 24,506, health officials said.

Also, with 57 new deaths, the total number of coronavirus fatalities rose to 775, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. 

The health ministry also said 5,063 people in India have been cured, discharged or migrated.  

The latest figures also suggested that Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-hit state, both in terms of cases and deaths with 6,817 infections, including 301 deaths. 

After, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi follows with 2,815 and 2,514 coronavirus cases. Gujarat is the only state after Maharashtra that has seen more than 100 deaths. 

As India completes today a month of the nationwide lockdown, the Ministry of Home Affairs gave certain relaxations with the opening of shops in market complexes outside municipality areas with 50 per cent staff and following mandatory precautions like wearing of masks and social distancing guidelines.

India earlier extended the 21-day nationwide lockdown for another 19 days till May 3 to contain the spread of the virus.
