A bill that aims to consolidate social security laws, especially pertaining to the Employees Provident Fund Act of 1952 was introduced in Lok Sabha today.

''The Code on Social Security Bill 2019'' was introduced by Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar. 

Many opposition members, including Revolutionary Socialist Party's NK Premachandran, opposed its introduction. 

The bill is intended to subsume eight central laws, and shall apply to all workers, even in the unorganised sector. 

The bill was approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this month.
