Reiterating the comments made by the foreign ministry few days ago, the Chinese defence ministry in Thursday also said that the situation at the India-China border is "stable and controllable".

This was the first time a statement over the border crisis in Sikkim and Ladakh was issued by Beijing's defence ministry.

Earlier today, China rejected US President Donald Trump's offer to mediate, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian saying the two countries did not want "intervention" from a third party to resolve the current military dispute.

"China’s position on the China-India border is clear. The Chinese border troops are committed to maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas," defence ministry spokesperson, Senior Colonel Ren Guoqiang said on Thursday at the monthly ministry briefing.

He further said that the overall situation is "stable and controllable", adding that India and China are capable to resolve the issue through "established border-related mechanisms and diplomatic channels".

On Thursday, India rejected Trump's offer to mediate and Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava saying that the country is already engaged with Beijing to "peacefully resolve this issue".

The standoff between the militaries of both countries started earlier this month in Line of Actual Control (LaC), the 3,500 de facto border separating the two sides.
