Suspected Naxalites carried out an  Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Chattisgarh's Sukma district on Saturday, injuring five District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans, police said.

DRGs are part of the state police force.

The blast, triggered when the security personnel were out on an anti-Naxal operation, took place in a forest near Sirsetti village, under the Fulbagdi police station limits, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Sundarraj P told PTI.

"One constable and four assistant constables were injured. They had been airlifted to Raipur. Hopefully all will be okay after treatment," the DIG said.

Reinforcement was rushed to the area and efforts were on to evacuate the injured personnel, he added.

On March 13, nine CRPF personnel were killed when a blast carried out by the Naxals targeted their mine-protected vehicle in the in the insurgency-affected Sukma district between the Kistaram and Palodi villages.
