Chandrayaan-2 a important and prestigious mission: ISRO chief K Sivan

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman Kailasavadivoo Sivan ahead of Chandrayaan-2 launch said that the lunar mission is a very important and prestigious mission for India.
Chandrayaan-2 lunar mission to the moon is all set for launch on July 15 at 2:51am.
The ISRO chairman on Saturday visited the Sri Venkateswara temple in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to the media after visiting the temple, K Sivan said, "On Monday early morning at 2.51 am, we are going to launch the most important and prestigious mission, Chandrayaan-2."
"A GSLV Mark III vehicle is going to be used for the mission and after a successful launch; it will take nearly two months to land on the moon at the South Pole," Sivan added.
This will be India's first attempt to land on the moon and the rover will go to the moon's south pole where no country has gone before.
It will be an extension of the Gaganyaan mission.
Chandrayaan will carry 13 Indian payloads (8 on orbiter, 3 on lander and 2 on rover) and one passive experiment from NASA.
The total mass of Chandrayaan-2 system is 3.8 ton; out of 3.8 ton, nearly 1.3 ton is the propeller.
Under the nearly Rs 1,000 crore mission, the landing on the moon near the South Pole would be on September 6 or 7 on uncharted territory, ISRO chairman K Sivan said.
