The CBI has filed a contempt plea against Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar, and the West Bengal DGG and Chief Secretary

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said she is "ready to give my life but not compromise" in the wake of the CBI-Kolkata Police face-off in her state.

"I am ready to give my life but not compromise. I did not take to the streets when you touched TMC leaders. But I am angry when they tried to insult the chair of the Kolkata Police Commissioner, he is leading the organisation," Mamata said.

A CBI team had shown up — reportedly unannounced — yesterday at the Kolkata Police chief's home. The CBI has accused Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar of slow-walking the investigations into the alleged Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams.

Five members of the CBI team were detained, but later released.

Mamata herself had turned up at Kumar's home on Sunday evening.

Kolkata Police personnel meanwhile stationed themselves outside the regional CBI office. A little later, CRPF personnel were sent to the CBI office.

Mamata then announced that she was staging a dharna against what she said were the Centre's machinations.

The CBI meanwhile has filed a contempt plea in the Supreme Court against Kumar, and the West Bengal director general of police and chief secretary. The plea accuses the trio of the wilful and deliberate violation of the Supreme Court's orders; the CBI says they were investigating the alleged Saradha and Rose Valley scams on the court's orders.
